1. Do you homework

If you are thinking about launching an eLearning startup, my advice is Do your homework, always remember, prior planning prevents poor performance!
Ask yourself:

  • Identify a robust learning management package with a good track record and offering good support
  • Bring learning to life – make it fun – take time to develop top quality content
  • Read the instructions!

2.Analyze the needs of your audience

Learn what your audience wants and if you have a great way to deliver that content/education to them and a great channel to do so you can go quite far. That said; do not assume that if you build it they will come. You need a channel to sell it. You need a solid marketing and sales plan. Make sure you know a way to attract paying clients.

3. Develop a close relationship with our LMS supplier

As our LMS implementation was tightly integrated to an independent software product, it was critical to develop a close relationship with our LMS supplier. We purchased personal training for our developers and customizations so that the LMS launches and works tightly within our dashboard. Look for an open platform with data tables you can work with.

4. Invest in Branding and Marketing

Developing strong content and building relationships in the blogger community is the best way of getting visibility for your product. Credibility is everything in the training market, and we continue to invest in our on-line presence and branding.

5. Be patient

Rome was not built in a day! It either takes a lot of money to grow an online training presence or you can accept the organic growth at a lower cost and that can potentially be a more successful (due to less debt) choice, with less hype and closer connection with reality, more significant exposure and feedback. Building a successful online training business is always going to take time to provide the return you deserve. Be prepared to work constantly with three goals in mind:

  • Continue building your brand
  • Establish and maintain your credibility, and
  • Grow your user base.

6. Ask for support

Without support success is not possible. You cannot be a jack-of-all-trades. Find a partner or build a team that will help you with advice regarding large steps a company needs to make.
